Fundus Autofluorescence (FAF)

Fundus Autofluorescence (FAF) is an advanced imaging technique available at Desai Eye Hospital to evaluate the health of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). This non-invasive diagnostic test helps detect early changes in various retinal conditions, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), inherited retinal diseases, and central serous retinopathy. FAF works by capturing the natural fluorescence emitted by lipofuscin, a pigment that accumulates in the RPE.

Using a specialized camera, the ophthalmologist records images of the retina without the need for dye injections. These images highlight areas of excessive or diminished autofluorescence, providing valuable insights into retinal health. FAF helps in detecting metabolic changes, assessing disease progression, and monitoring treatment responses.

The procedure is quick, typically taking around 10 to 15 minutes, and is completely non-invasive. At Desai Eye Hospital, our expert team ensures a comfortable experience while delivering high-quality imaging to aid in early diagnosis and effective management of retinal disorders.
