Meibography

Meibography is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique used to visualize the meibomian glands in the eyelids. These glands are responsible for secreting oils that form part of the tear film, helping to maintain eye lubrication and prevent dryness. Dysfunction or damage to the meibomian glands can lead to dry eye disease, irritation, and discomfort. Meibography helps in diagnosing conditions like meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), which is one of the most common causes of dry eye.

At Desai Eye Institute, meibography is typically performed using specialized imaging systems, such as infrared light-based devices, that provide high-resolution images of the meibomian glands. The procedure is painless and takes only a few minutes. By examining the structure and condition of the glands, the physician can determine the extent of gland damage or dysfunction and recommend appropriate treatment options.
