YAG Capsulotomy
YAG Capsulotomy is a laser surgery performed to treat posterior capsule opacification (PCO), a common complication that can occur after cataract surgery. PCO occurs when the back part of the eye’s lens capsule, which holds the artificial intraocular lens (IOL) in place, becomes cloudy and causes blurry vision. YAG Capsulotomy uses a YAG laser to create a small opening in the cloudy capsule, allowing light to pass through and restoring clear vision.
This procedure is typically done on an outpatient basis and is minimally invasive. During the procedure, the patient is given eye drops to dilate the pupil and a local anesthetic to numb the eye. The surgeon then uses the YAG laser to create a precise hole in the clouded capsule, which immediately improves the patient’s vision.
